Screen printing benefits

  1. Perfect for large orders — This is the ideal printing method if you have a large batch of t-shirts you are needing printed. Screen printing works even better when paired with large orders that feature simpler designs.
  2. Vibrant colors — The saturation of color is nice and rich because it is squeegeed on with firm pressure. Black and white ink can look fresh and bright on different colored garments.

  3. Quality of print — The quality of your print is sure to last for years to come when using the screen print method and can withstand wear and tear more easily than other print types.

  4. Versatile — Screen printing is available to be used on various garments and materials including hats, t-shirts, and marketing materials like posters and banners.

  5. Good for Various Inks — Screen printing is good for all different types of inks. You can choose from a wide variety of ink types that may not be available with other printing methods.

How screen printing works

The screen printing process is not as complicated as it seems. Before you begin printing designs, you must establish the films you will need to use. You can then start setting up your space with the screen you would like to use as well. It is recommended that you begin with the larger portion of the print you are attempting to complete.

Your screen has two sides to it. The first side of your screen is called the ‘film’ side. This is the side you will use to place your film on top of. The other side of your screen, usually where the frame is, is where your squeegee will be applied. That is the side that will face you as you squeegee your ink through to create your print.

Now you are ready to print! With your screen facing squeegee side down, place your film printed side down in a reversed position so that when it is printed, the words or design will read the correct way. Measure it carefully before printing. When it is in its proper position, tape it down to hold it in place. Put your screen into your exposure unit, film side faced down, and turn it on. Repeat this process for any additional colors that are required by your design.

After your screen has been exposed, rinse off your print with a hose. You should begin to see the design clearly show through the screen. Let your screen dry.

Next, line up your original film onto your pallet and make sure it is where you want it to print on your t-shirt. Place your screen on top and make sure the images match up. Again, take careful consideration in making sure the design is accurately placed. Once you have placed your screen down you may take your original film away and tape down your screen. Again, you will repeat this process for every layer of color you are printing.

Place the t-shirt or garment you would like to print on onto the receiving end of the pallett with your screen facing it. Squeegee your first colored layer onto your t-shirt and let it flash cure. If you have additional colors, repeat this process until your design is finished.

By trying DTS printing in your print shop, you will see firsthand the true advantages of screen printing. It can change the way you work for good!
